Xiangyang Fashion & Gift Market is one of the three major clothing professional markets in Shanghai. From 1989 to 1990, the turnover and the tax paid continuously ranked first in the city’s clothing market. The market is located on Liulin Road at the east end of the prosperous Huaihai Middle Road Commercial Street in Luwan District, and is adjacent to the Baxianqiao commercial downtown area in the west. In October 1980, in order to play the role of the commercial center of the downtown area, the Luwan District Administration for Industry and Commerce decided to open a market on Liulin Road to guide individual traders to enter the market.
The listed products mainly include more than 30 kinds of small commodities such as saving collars, nylon bags, pillowcases, toys and so on. In 1981, according to the market demand, adult clothing, children’s clothing and children’s socks, handicraft products, leather products, knitwear and other commodities were added to the listed commodities, and the variety increased to more than 70 kinds. The mode of operation has evolved from retail-based to bulk sales. On both sides of the road with a total length of 308 meters, 80 PVC-type plastic enclosed booths have been built, with an indoor area of 600 square meters, 393 booths, and 360 vendors.

Because traders attach great importance to market information, they often travel to and from Guangdong, Fujian, Shenzhen and Zhuhai Special Economic Zones to learn about the latest clothing fabrics and styles in the South, Hong Kong and Macao.
